The night prior to the Pontins contest, the band held its annual band dinner. During this evening the band held a presentation ceremony where individuals were acknowledged for their contribution to the work of the band over the year. A series of 'special awards' were made including, 'Shed Builders of the Year Award' to John Mills, 'Smirnoff Ice Award' to the bass section for Russian Rushing music, 'Stop Cruelty to Chairs Award' to Andrew Bates, 'Award for Bravery' to Dave Bartle, 'BAFTA Award to Bob Baggott to name a few. During the evening more serious presentations were made for 'The Player of the Year Award' awarded by Musical Director Dave Lea to trombonist Pete Stares and the first ever 'Players Player Award' to flugel player Andy Bates. Finally a presentation was made to the band chairman Richard Andrews who retired from his position after many years of service to the band.
